| The first track off of Nickelback's Dark Horse album is called "Something In Your Mouth." Part of the lyrics go:
I love the way you dance with anybody And tease them all by sucking on your thumb You're so much cuter when you never pull it out You look so much cuter... with something in your mouth
"Wow," I thought, "that's quite suggestive." Then I looked at the rest of the album, and I judged that 9 of the 11 tracks have sexual titles in one way or another:
Something In Your Mouth I'd Come For You Next Go Round Just To Get High Never Gonna Be Alone Shakin' Hands S.E.X. If Today Was Your Last Day This Afternoon
OK, some of those are a stretch. But "I'd Come For You" and "S.E.X" -- no argument there, haha. I haven't actually listened to all the songs, but if the rest of the lyrics are anything like "Something In Your Mouth," I don't know if I want to hear them.

| speed it up slow it down. put it in reverse. take what they tell you matters and see through the syntax, past the semantics. the real beauty can't be outlined in neon lights, timed to turn on when the sun goes down. the blinking flashing distractions of the world might make a child smile: but we miss the truly beautiful part of that exchange. we have images without substance, words without substance, ideas without substance, personalities without substance, its no wonder we all turn to our favorite substances.
i can't handle the straight line or the fast track. the four-year plan and the 401k aren't for me. people live in boxes created by other people. i'm taking the first left turn off the highway out of the spotlight, into creativity, open-mindedness and a thirst for really living. living sanely away from the insanity of a world where thoughts are held indiscriminately. the last one in is the most important and its days are numbered. when did people become a clumsy stack of post-it notes where we can only see the last one pasted to the top?
where's the depth, where's the variety? why can't i look around and see an adventure waiting to happen? why do i only see an expressionless face plugged into an iPod? i have song-A.D.D. when i had an iPod i was too lazy to change my playlists often enough not to get bored every day. maybe i have life-A.D.D. too. sometimes i can't change the landscape often enough to keep me interested. sure, there are the classic songs you can't get enough of. but they can't be the end-all, be-all. bring them along with you for the ride. and the ones you leave behind aren't gone forever. if you loved them in the first place, they've given you something to take with you on the next wonderful adventure in store, the next symphony to be written and performed in your life.
i am listener and i am a music-maker. this world isn't static. we aren't hear to hear parrot the songs played around us. when the melody is rushing by, we all have the opportunity to write the next notes even though they seem off key to those who have the steps memorized. there are times to sing along and times to improvise.
